The trend for wellness and self-care is a growing one, with people being more conscious of their physical and mental health than ever before. It’s become quite an industry, and a good bit of that industry is focused on detoxifying your personal environment..
According to Vogue, wellness starts in your bathroom.
For most people, the bathroom is where they do their whole personal-care routine, so it makes a lot of sense to start a detox there…
Sounds reasonable. Let’s go over their suggestions.
Dry Brush Your Body
Gently brush your entire body before bathing.
Dry brushing before you shower is a great detox for the body… It exfoliates and evens out skin tone, promotes circulation and lymphatic drainage, and wakes up the nervous system.
While they recommend a brush by brand and name, all you need is a soft, natural-bristle brush for the effects.
Change Your Shower Liner
Consider swapping your plastic liner for one made from polyester.
Most liners are made from vinyl, or PVC, which is one of the most toxic plastics, due to chemical contamination during the production process. When exposed to heat and steam in the bathroom, PVC leaches into the air and is breathed in.
You could do away with the liner altogether, but bear in mind that you’ll have to battle moisture in the shower curtain without it.
Reach for the Oil
Creams and lotions contain petrochemicals, waxes, and a host of other ingredients. Switch to a body oil instead.
Your skin is your largest organ and can absorb [as much as] 60 percent of what you apply to it, so it’s important to use a nontoxic product when you’re applying it to such a large surface area.
Coconut oil not only smells delicious, but it’s wonderful for the skin. Same with olive oil.
