Ever heard the old expression “everything old is new again”? Well, it seems to be true… for bathrooms anyway! We’ve got a list, via Real Simple, of bathroom trends that had gone out of style but are coming back in!
As 2018 draws to a close, interior design pros and remodeling experts are revealing their predictions for the top interior design trends of 2019… And digging into the upcoming bathroom interior design trends for 2019, there are a few shocking styles that are poised to make big comebacks in the year to come.
Take back the tub!
Recent years have seen a trend of downplaying the bathtub – or getting rid of it altogether! Oversized showers, steam rooms, and more have been growing. But not everyone wants to say goodbye to the bath.
According to the 2018 trends report, 80 percent of remodeling homeowners were planning to upgrade their bathtub. A soaking tub was the most popular option, winning 69 percent of the vote (a 7 percent increase from the 2017 findings). As luxurious baths and self-care routines become even more popular in 2019, the bathtub will follow the trend.
Get back to basics!
Another bathroom fad that has lasted for years (if not generations) is white-on-white-on-white, which has often including the vanity. But not only are white vanities on their way out for some, painted finishes in general are declining in popularity.
What’s catching on is a turn toward reclaimed wood or light wood with clear stains that celebrate grain pattern details and knots.
Make the most of metals!
Much like white-on-white as a bathroom staple, for a very long time shiny chrome has been king when it comes to fixtures. Moving forward, matte nickel (whether brushed or satin) has moved into the top position.
Shiny chrome landed in second place (28 percent), followed by matte chrome (10 percent) and oil-rubbed bronze (8 percent).
